Bertrand Russell: "The universe may have a purpose, but nothing we know suggests that, if so, this purpose has any similarity to ours."
I have to agree with Russell here. Except in perhaps the broadest sense of the word "purpose" (e.g., both we and the universe exist to serve God's will), I can't think of any purpose that would be shared by the two Now if I could only remember anyone who claimed that they did, I might see a purpose for his quote It sounds like Russell took a swing at profundity, but missed badly.
